BES BUFFER FOR BIOCHEMISTRY
BES is a zwitterionic buffering agent used in biochemistry and molecular biology that was first selected and described by Good et al. It is a bis(2-hydroxyethyl)amine buffer that is useful for a pH range of 6.4 – 7.8. It is soluble in water at 0°C up to 3.2M.
The pKa of the buffer should be near the desired midpoint pH of the solution. (2) The capacity of a buffer should fall within one to two pH units above or below the desired pH values. If the pH is expected to drop during the procedure, choose a buffer with a pKa slightly lower than the midpoint pH.
low dose is incapable of increasing buffering capacity, and increases in circulating bicarbonate and blood pH were modest at best.
