POTASSIUM FORMATE AR
Potassium Formate is a useful chemical compound in the production of potassium metal and in the oil and gas industry, often in aqueous solution (alone, or mixed with cesium formate), to yield a high-density, environmentally-friendly brine that can be used a a heat transfer fluid.

A very efficient process for the production of sodium or potassium formate by the TH of sodium or potassium bicarbonate has been described by Beller and coworkers. In this process the MACHO catalyst 129 moves hydrogen from methanol to bicarbonate making formate and formaldehyde.
Potassium formate, HCO2K, HCOOK, or CHKO2, is the potassium salt of formic acid. This strongly hygroscopic white solid is an intermediate in the formate potash process for the production of potassium. Potassium formate has also been studied as a potential environmentally friendly deicing salt for use on roads.
