SILVER IODIDE lAB 99%
Silver iodide is an inorganic compound with the formula AgI. The compound is a bright yellow solid, but samples almost always contain impurities of metallic silver that give a gray coloration. S 1540 (OTTO) Silver iodide, 99% Cas 7783-96-2 - used as an antiseptic and in cloud seeding.
The silver contamination arises because AgI is highly photosensitive. This property is exploited in silver-based photography. Silver iodide is also used as an antiseptic and in cloud seeding.
Synthesis. Silver nitrate can be prepared by reacting silver, such as silver bullion or silver foil, with nitric acid, resulting in silver nitrate, water, and oxides of nitrogen. Reaction byproducts depend upon the concentration of nitric acid used.
Silver iodide or dry ice (solid carbon dioxide) is used to supply naturally deficient clouds with the proper concentration of ice crystals to increase rainfall through the 'cold rain' process.
