DIGITONIN AR
Digitonin is a steroidal saponin (saraponin) obtained from the foxglove plant Digitalis purpurea.
Its aglycone is digitogenin, a spirostan steroid.
Digitonin is used as the cell-permeabilizing agent as it is a weak nonionic detergent, which at low concentrations selectively renders the plasma membrane permeable, causing it to release cytosolic components but to leave other organelles intact.
Digitonin functions as a nonionic detergent with an uncharged hydrophilic head group and is often used to break down chemical interactions involving proteins and lipids
Bioinformatic analysis predict that it is a membrane protein so our hypothesis is that it may be a mitochondria (probably inner) membrane protein.
