CRESYL VIOLET ACETATE FOR MICROSCOPY
CERTISTAIN dry dye Cresyl violet (acetate) is used for
the preparation of a staining solution that can be used for the staining of nuclei and Nissl bodies.
Cresyl Violet Acetate solution is used to stain Nissl substance in the cytoplasm of neurons in paraformaldehyde or formalin-fixed tissue. The neuropil will be stained a granular purple-blue. This stain is commonly used to identify the neuronal structure in brain and spinal cord tissue.

An inhaled dose of 200 ppm of CO was administered to the pups 1h after completion of .and then placed in 0.5% Cresyl Violet acetate.
The greatest problem with this method is overstaining or irregularity of staining with Malachite green. It is also valuable in demonstrating the Legionella bacillus in post-mortem lung smears.
