Nitromethane is a low-molecular-weight nitroalkane and a polar organic solvent. It is a clear, colorless liquid with a characteristic odor and a boiling point of approximately 101°C. It is used primarily as a specialty solvent and chemical intermediate in controlled industrial and laboratory applications.
Nitromethane has a molecular weight of approximately 61.04 g/mol and is denser than water, with a density around 1.14 g/cm³ at 20°C.

Important Safety Note
Nitromethane is not an ordinary solvent for uncontrolled handling or general-purpose cleaning. Its relatively low flash point and energetic decomposition characteristics require appropriate hazardous-material storage, transportation and regulatory controls.
For commercial supply, the grade, purity, packaging, transport classification and local regulatory requirements should be verified before quotation or shipment.
Storage & Handling
Nitromethane requires careful handling because it is flammable and can undergo hazardous decomposition under severe heating or contamination. It should be stored in an appropriate, compatible container in a cool, well-ventilated area away from ignition sources and incompatible materials.
Avoid contamination and unnecessary heating. Suitable chemical-resistant PPE, ventilation and appropriate fire-safety controls should be used according to the current SDS.
Nitromethane can become more hazardous when contaminated with certain acids, bases, amines, oxidizing/reducing materials or other incompatible substances.
